Acceptable Use Policy

1. Purpose

RUIN is a platform for documenting, preserving, and sharing imagery of historic sites. This policy sets out the standards of behaviour we expect from all users. By creating an account you agree to follow these rules.

2. Permitted Use

You may use RUIN to photograph historic and archaeological sites, generate AI reconstructions of those sites, share your content with the community, participate in expeditions, and engage with other users' posts through comments and accuracy votes.

3. Prohibited Content

You must not upload, generate, or share content that:

• Is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, or invasive of privacy
• Contains hate speech, discrimination, or incites violence against any individual or group
• Depicts or glorifies acts of terrorism, genocide, or crimes against humanity
• Is sexually explicit, pornographic, or exploitative — especially involving minors
• Intentionally misrepresents history for propaganda, revisionism, or misinformation purposes
• Infringes copyright, trademarks, or other intellectual property rights of third parties
• Contains personal data of others without their consent
• Is spam, advertising, or commercial solicitation unrelated to historic site documentation

4. AI-Generated Content

RUIN uses AI to reconstruct historic scenes from your photographs. You must not attempt to manipulate the AI generation system to produce offensive, misleading, or harmful imagery. All AI-generated content is subject to automated moderation and may be reviewed by verified historians. Content that fails moderation will be rejected and repeated violations may result in account suspension.

5. Location and Site Integrity

When visiting historic sites, always respect local laws, access restrictions, and preservation guidelines. Do not trespass on private property. Do not disturb, damage, or remove artefacts from archaeological sites. Accurately represent the location and context of your photographs — do not fabricate GPS data or misattribute sites.

6. Community Conduct

Treat all users with respect. Constructive feedback on historical accuracy is encouraged; personal attacks, bullying, and harassment are not. Do not impersonate other users, historians, or organisations. Do not attempt to game the points, badges, or expedition systems through fraudulent activity.

7. Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. Do not share your password or allow others to access your account. Notify us immediately if you believe your account has been compromised.

8. Enforcement

We reserve the right to remove content, restrict functionality, or suspend or terminate accounts that violate this policy. Serious or repeated violations may be reported to relevant authorities. Decisions on content moderation are made by our team of verified historians and platform administrators.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of RUIN after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We will notify users of material changes via in-app notification or email.
